The LG GW520 was originally released in August 2009, and is back with the recently released Silver version. This sophisticatedly styled handset offers a wide range of impressive functionality. Not only does it offer touch screen technology, but an impressive full QWERTY keyboard also slides out from behind the screen.

The GW520 measures 106.5x53x15.9mm and weighs in at 125.5 grams. It's relatively lightweight and slim profile make it comfortable to use. The 2.8 inch TFT resistive touch screen is capable of displaying up to 256,000 colours at 240x400 pixels ensuring superb clarity of on screen content. A full QWERTY keyboard slides out from behind the screen offering an alternative method of text input. An accelerometer is built in which senses when the phone has been tilted and automatically rotates the on screen content accordingly so can be viewed in both landscape and portrait forms.

Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages by vibration and ringing with the option to download polyphonic ringtones and utilize MP3 music files as ringtones. A useful speakerphone system is built in allowing hands free communication.

Internal memory is 40MB as standard. However up to 16GB is available by utilizing the microSD slot and installing a larger memory card, allowing plenty of storage for media files and other data.

Class 12 GPRS and class 10 EDGE kick off the list of connectivity features. Connection to 3G networks is via HSDPA at speeds of up to 7.2Mbps. Should users wish to share files and data with other devices in the same vicinity, Bluetooth version 2.0 is installed as standard.

The GW520 Silver is equipped with a built in digital camera boasting 3.15 MP which operates at a pixel resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. As an alternative to taking still images, the camera also has the ability to shoot video.

A versatile media player supports a wide range of music file formats, and can also play MP4 video files. Media files can easily be transferred to and from a computer via USB connection, of which a micro USB version 2.0 port can be found on the handset. Additional entertainment options include stereo FM radio, and a range of pre-installed and downloadable games. Some of the games take advantage of the aforementioned accelerometer, allowing motion based games to be played by moving the phone to carry out functions such as steer a vehicle.

Several extra features are also included. These include an organizer, document viewer, photo/video editor, voice memo recorder and T9 predictive text input.

As well as providing a well rounded package of features, the GW520 is available in a range of colours. These are currently Blue on Black, Red on Black, Silver, and Pearl White. This is sure to add to the appeal of this phone, especially amongst those who also view their phone as a fashion statement.
